ASSURE-d in Lesson




For the designated example lesson, the application of ASSURE MODEL can be viewed as follows

Analyze Learners

The class is composed of 36 pupils. It shows a close to balanced  number of 19 girls and 17 boys. All pupils are of the age 10. Among the characteristics of pupils to be noted is that most pupil are of middle class background with and average grasp of the English language. One pupil is noted ill while another exhibits symptoms of hyperactivity. In the context of pupil’s potential, all possess reading and writing skills at an average level. Pupils too already have previous knowledge on tenses and three basic skills of living.


Objectives

Pupils are able to pronounce words shown in video correctly after teacher. They are also able to relate the basic needs of living learnt to the process of “Photosynthesis”. By doing so, they are indirectly working on their cognitive skills in terms of relation.



Select Media, Materials and Methods

Among the materials used in the process of teaching are as follows:-

Vedio of photosynthesis prepared by teacher
                      LCD device and laptop to play the vedio to be viewed by pupils.
                    A text on the process of photosynthesis is prepared by the teacher to be read and arranged  
       by pupils in the presentation stage
       Answer sheets are prepared for the practice stage.
                       Drawing paper is handed out to each pupil to carry out their activity.

           As for the methods used, Vedio is presented to expose pupils to the lesson of the day as well as to keep them intrigued. Here, the question and answer method is employed where teacher questions the pupils to be answered.
                      Next, Story telling strategy is used, this enables pupils to listen with keen interest and attain correct pronunciation of words simultaneously.
·          Also employed are indentification as well as “understanding the text”. In here, pupils are required to relate information from the previous text to a picture by drawing their own plants. This method works on pupils creativity besides helping them grasp a better control of their fine motor skills.

Induction (10 minutes)
Aktiviti: Question and Answer

By showing a vedio presentation of the photosynthesis process, pupils’ interest are intrigued and this will help to keep them hooked to the vedio. It is such as there is a fine blend of music to it that pupils will find interesting.

After that Teacher points to some words in the vedio after which pupils pronounce the words shown correctly according to teacher.



Presentation
Story Telling (20minit)
     Teacher reads a pre-prepared text correct stress and intonation after which pupils read after.
      Pupils then work individually on arranging the process of photosynthesis in correct order. Although the pupils is chosen by teacher, the each pupil in the class simultaneously works on the correct answer.

Indetification (20minit)
.       Pupils are divided into 4 six groups
         Each group is asked to identify the tenses used in the text given previously.
         Pupils work collaboratively in finding the answers together.


Production
(10 minutes)

     
     Each group is then given a drawing block to draw their own plants and name them.
  
    Pupils work collaboratively again. This process too helps to stir their creativity.



CLOSURE

  Pupils listen to teacher’s explanation on how to take care of the   environment, while   
 contributing ideas of their own.
 As teacher tells pupils how to appreciate nature, they also share their own
 ideas on ways they can show appreciation towards nature.
                       Pupils are evaluated on their understanding of the process of photosynthesis and ability in identifying noun correctly.
            Teacher will give guidance if needed.

EFFECTIVENESS OF MEDIA

The vedio shown gives an early insight of  the lesson to pupils. Besides that, pupil are able to understand the vedio shown based on writted wordings. By reading, they are thus directly working on their reading skills simultaneously. The vedio too is used to stimulate answer on pronounciation from pupils.

Teacher Presentation
The teaching and learning process is ensured to move in a smooth flow.
Moreover pupils are ensured that they are able to understand wht is presented and respond well to questions and activities carried out.
